Flying the Flag for Cornwall Biking…..

It was three years ago today that Karen and Robin opened the doors to their delightful motorbike pit stop Chequered Flag Cafe just off the A38 near Liskeard, proudly flying the flag for Cornwall biking.

I first visited the cafe in October 2015;

Back when my bike had that nasty dent from those storms. Back when I was riding the roads of Cornwall on my tod as I didn’t know anyone. Pretty much back to the beginning of my days as a biker.

This cafe has since personally become a huge part of my life. They have seen me through some of the best and worse days in the last few years. From being on the brink of mental meltdowns to unforeseen motorbike mechanical issues to making unforgettable friendships and celebrating the best motorcycling has to offer! These guys are always here to help with invaluable support and advise. Always going that extra mile.

Electrical Fault on the Fazer
Not sure your average Joe mechanic would have picked up on that on a standard service, especially as it was under my seat! Ace workmanship by Robin.

See these guys aren’t just a standard cafe. They are also a workshop, a community hub for events and with Robins passion for motorcycle travel, a place to plan and start your own adventures. With all the facilities you could dream of from maps and books to screens to plug into and charging points for all your accessories. Not to mention their handy helmet park, motorcycle jacket hanging rail and drying point for your gloves. A motorcyclists heaven!

This cafe has also been the start of some wonderful friendship’s. It was the place where I first saw The Ukeabillies play live with Clive now becoming a firm friend;

The place where I took Steve on his 125cc to his 1st bike meet. We have since become good friends and attended one of Robins workshops together. I’m very pleased to say he has now got his full licences and rides a beautiful Kawasaki Vulcan.

Its also the place where new friendships are continuing to form. With their regular sociable evenings and events such as their 1st ladies bike night and groups holding their own events such as The Litas and their quiz night. Also their Bonneville 60 event which saw bikers come out to celebrate the Triumph Bonneville’s 60th anniversary. Plus many others which you can see on their Facebook events page

And I haven’t even got around to the food!!!! With the meanest chilli con carne in town, ice-cream milkshakes to die for, an ace breakie and the best ice-cream sundaes for that pick me up just when you need it. What more could you ask for!

I am really going to miss this place when I go to New Zealand, especially the wonderful people who run it and the friendships I have made. Only hoping I can be as lucky to find places like this when I’m out there. Keep up the good work guys! If you’re in Cornwall and haven’t visited them yet check them out.
